Fixed Mount Delivers Full Glass Performance at Lower Cost
Dynamic Optronic Technologies released the EHS-1 L holographic sight following positive feedback at SHOT Show for its original EHS-1 model. The L-series strips away the quick-detach lever system entirely, replacing it with a permanent cross-bolt mount that secures directly to Picatinny rails. The optics remain identical to the original. The price drops significantly.
Same Glass, Different Hardware Strategy
The EHS-1 and EHS-1 L share the same holographic reticle technology and glass quality. Both deliver the same sight picture and optical clarity shooters expect from Dynamic Optronic's platform. The difference sits in the mounting system.
The original EHS-1 featured a quick-detach lever. This allowed rapid mounting and removal from tactical rails without tools. The EHS-1 L eliminates that convenience. Instead, users secure the sight with a cross-bolt that threads directly into the rail. Removing it requires disassembly—not practical for field transitions or range swaps between firearms.
For shooters who install a holographic sight and leave it mounted, this trade-off makes financial sense. The simplified hardware reduces manufacturing complexity and material costs. Those savings transfer to the buyer.
Why This Matters for Carry and Competition Shooters
Handgun carriers rarely swap optics between guns. A daily carry pistol gets one sight. That sight stays mounted. The fixed-mount approach eliminates the expense of a feature most won't use.
AR platform shooters present a mixed scenario. Range competitors and hunters often run the same upper receiver across multiple lower groups. Quick-detach capability saves money there. Tactical shooters or those running a single precision rifle see no value in paying for detachable mounts.
The holographic reticle itself delivers advantages over red dots in specific situations. Holographic sights function without batteries—they use ambient light and internal illumination from a laser. Shooters in heavy dust or smoke environments report clearer target acquisition with holographic reticles. The parallax-free design means accuracy doesn't suffer from slight head position changes.
DownRange Analysis
Dynamic Optronic read the market correctly. Most firearms owners buy one sight and install it permanently. The EHS-1 L removes the price premium attached to quick-detach mechanisms that many shooters never use.
This pricing approach mirrors what established manufacturers have done successfully. Trijicon offers entry-level TA33 ACOG models without quick-detach rings at lower prices. Eotech's XPS series lacks QD mounts compared to their G33 magnifier bundles. Buyers choose based on actual needs.
The permanent mount strategy creates a question: barrel life. Rifle shooters replacing barrels mid-upper-receiver life will need to remove or transfer the sight. That cross-bolt approach becomes cumbersome versus detachable systems. Handgun and precision rifle owners face no such obstacles.
For daily carry shooters, budget-conscious AR builders, and hunters mounting a sight once, the EHS-1 L delivers full optical performance at a price point that makes holographic technology more accessible. The trade-off—losing detachable convenience—matches how most shooters actually operate their guns.
